The Amykleion in Sparta – From the village to the sanctuary: new perspectives to the Spartan Amyklaion

Dr. M. Stavros Vlizos ‘s (Benaki Museum Athen) lecture will present the latest results of the Amykles Research Project, which provides information on the nature and duration of the use of Aghia Kyriaki Hill from the beginning to enter into post-Byzantine period. The Amyklaion on the hill of Agia Kyriaki is one of the most important archaeological sites of Laconia and together with the Athena Chalkioikos and  Artemis Orthia give us information for the political and social life of the region in that period.
